Eddy, in the Mac app

# Read with Eddy, with its sources

Open Research in Eddy and read Wikipedia, public-domain books from Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks, US-government science pages or your own files in a clean reader. Select any words to ask about them. Or ask Eddy to look something up: it searches, reads the sources, and writes a short brief that quotes only paragraphs it actually read, with numbered citations you can check.

Find it

## An article, a book, your notes.

Press Research, or Cmd + E, and search. Filters keep it to what you want: All, Wikipedia, Books and stories, NASA and science, or Your files. Pick one and it opens in a clean reader, without ads or sidebars, ready to read with Eddy.

[Guide: Read and research with Eddy](https://docs.duckyhelper.com/eddy/research/)

Simple English first for younger readers

For a younger learner, Wikipedia opens in Simple English first.

Other websites

A site the reader does not open says so. Eddy can open it in a web page tab with you instead.

Ask about any words

## Select it. Ask about it.

Select any words on the page and four buttons appear: Ask Eddy, Show me, Explain and Save. Ask what a sentence means, see it as a picture, or keep it as a highlight. Select anywhere lets you drag a box over a table or a figure and ask about that.

A brief you can check

## Research you can check.

Ask Eddy to look it up, or pick Look it up in How Eddy answers. Eddy shows its steps as it searches and reads, then writes a short brief. Every claim has a number, and every number opens the paragraph it came from. If Eddy did not read it, it does not quote it.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is there an AI that reads along with me?

Yes. In Eddy's reader, press Listen and Eddy reads the article or story aloud while each word lights up. Tap any word to pause and ask about it. Select a sentence to ask what it means, see it as a picture, or save it.

### Where do Eddy's sources come from?

From what Eddy actually opened and read: Wikipedia, public-domain books from Project Gutenberg and Standard Ebooks, US-government science pages and your own files. Its brief quotes only paragraphs it read, and each numbered citation opens that paragraph, so you can check it.

### Can Eddy help me understand my assigned reading?

Yes. If the reading is on Wikipedia or a public-domain book, open it in Research. If it is a PDF, Word file or slides from your class, open it with Open a file and Eddy reads it with you. Select any part to ask about it.

### Does it make up quotes?

Eddy's research brief quotes only paragraphs it actually read, and every claim carries a number that opens its source. If something is not in what it read, it does not cite it. You can always open the source and check.

### Does the reader work on a Chromebook?

Not right now: DuckyHelper is a Mac app (macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon). There is no Chromebook or web version. On a Mac, the reader is in the Eddy tab of the DuckyHelper dashboard, and Ducky can read along on your own screen.
