# Step-by-step tutorials in your own apps

Ask the DuckyHelper Mac app how to do something, make a chart, turn on dark mode, use a formula, and Ducky teaches you in the real app on your screen. The pointer shows where, each step is said out loud, and Ducky waits for you to do it. It watches your clicks and typing and moves on only when you really did the step.

It waits for you

## Learn by doing, not by watching.

A video moves on whether you followed or not. Ducky does not. It shows where the step is, says what to do, and watches the app you are in: your clicks, the field you are in, what you type. When you have really done the step, the next one follows. Prefer to go on yourself? Press Next.

A mini pill follows the mouse

During a tutorial a small pill rides along with the mouse, with Cancel and Done. Hold fn and it holds still, so you can click it.

Watching only while it runs

Ducky follows your clicks and typing only while a tutorial asks for it, never at launch, and its log never says what you clicked.

Any app

A spreadsheet, a slide deck, System Settings, a design tool, a website: if it is on your Mac, Ducky can walk you through it.

Watch me, then you

## See it once. Then your turn.

Say show me first, and the pointer does the task once while Ducky narrates. It only moves and draws; nothing is clicked or typed. Then Ducky says your turn, and the same steps become a tutorial that checks you.

[Guide: Watch me, then you](https://docs.duckyhelper.com/mac/does-it-for-you/)

It does it for you only when you ask

Ask click it for me, or type my name in, and Ducky will. The pointer always flies there first, so you see every click, and it never types in a password field.

Typing along

## When a step says type this.

For a step where you type, grey ghost letters appear at your cursor inside the real text box, and each letter you type replaces its ghost. A wrong letter is marked in red under it, so you can fix it. Every letter is yours.

## Ask how. Then do it.

How a tutorial goes on a Mac.

1. 1. Press fn and ask how How do I make a chart from this table? In the app you are using.
2. 2. Ducky shows where The pointer flies to the first button and Ducky says the step.
3. 3. You do it Click, type, choose. Ducky watches and waits.
4. 4. The next step follows When you really did it. Done ends it; Cancel stops it any time.

Tutorials need the Accessibility switch, to follow your clicks and typing, and Screen recording. The Mac app asks for both when you set it up.

## Doing beats watching.

Following a worked example and then trying it yourself, with someone checking each step, is how skills stick. That is the shape of every DuckyHelper tutorial: show, then your turn, then a check. ## Frequently asked questions

### How do I learn new software step by step?

### Does Ducky click things for me?

Only when you clearly ask, like click it for me, or while it shows you a task once in watch me, then you, where the pointer only moves and draws. Its pointer always flies to the spot first, so you see every click, and it never types in a password field.

### Does it work on a Chromebook?

Not right now: DuckyHelper is a Mac app (macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon). There is no Chromebook or web version. ### Can I stop a tutorial halfway?

Yes. The small pill that follows your mouse during a tutorial has Cancel and Done. Hold fn and the pill holds still, so you can click Cancel. The tutorial ends there, and you can ask for it again whenever you want.
