# Worked steps and graphs you can keep

Ask DuckyHelper to work a problem out step by step and you get three to six steps, one move each, with the math written out, streaming in as Ducky talks you through them. Press Keep and the steps stay on your screen as a note you can move next to your work. Ask for a graph and you get one you can hover, zoom and change with sliders.

Steps

## One move per step.

Each step does one thing and says why: cut the circle into thin slices, lay them in a row, the row is almost a rectangle, put in r = 3. The math is typeset as you would write it. In Eddy, the same steps arrive as a Worked out picture you can step through line by line.

Keep

## Keep the steps next to your work.

On a Mac, press Keep and the steps leave the pill and stay on your screen as a note. Drag it beside your worksheet and do the next problem with the method in view. In Eddy, every Worked out picture stays in your lesson, and History keeps the whole lesson.

Graphs

## A graph you can read.

Ask graph y = log2 x, or what if I flip the line? The graph appears in the pill or on Eddy's desk, and you can hover any point to read it, pan around and zoom in. Eddy also draws charts, for data, results and the bits of a lab report.

Sliders

## Drag a slider. Watch it change.

When a formula has a letter in it, the graph gets a slider for it. Drag the base of a logarithm and watch the curve bend while one point never moves: every log graph passes through (1, 0). You find the rule by playing with it.

Also on a Mac

## Explainers that build up.

In the Mac pill, Ducky can also explain with an animated drawing.

## Learn from a worked example.

Studying a solved problem one step at a time, then trying the next one yourself, is a well-tested way to learn a method. That is the point of Keep: the example stays in view while you do the next one. ## Frequently asked questions

### Is there a step by step math solver that explains each step?

DuckyHelper works problems out in three to six steps, one move each, and explains each one out loud as it appears. Ask a follow-up about any step. It is built to teach the method, so it may ask you to try the next step yourself.

### Can I keep the steps on my screen?

On a Mac, yes: press Keep and the steps become a note that stays on your screen, which you can drag anywhere. In Eddy, the steps come as a Worked out picture that stays in your lesson, and you can replay the lesson from History.

### Can I play with a graph?

Yes. Hover any point to read it, pan and zoom, and drag the slider for any letter in the formula to see what changes. Ask what if questions, like what if I flip the line?, and the graph changes with you.

### Does this work for subjects other than math?

Yes. Steps work for any method: balancing a chemical equation, a physics problem, the stages of a process. Eddy also draws charts for data, and maps and timelines for history and geography.

### Does it work on a Chromebook?

Not right now: DuckyHelper is a Mac app (macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon). There is no Chromebook or web version. On a Mac, steps come as a Worked out picture on Eddy's desk in the Eddy tab, and Keep, the note that stays on your screen, and animated explainers are in the pill.

## More features

### Ask out loud and hear the answer: press fn on a Mac, or talk to Eddy in the app's Eddy tab

Ask DuckyHelper out loud and it answers out loud while it shows you the steps. On your Mac, press fn in any app, or talk to Eddy in its tab.

### Write your working and get it checked line by line, or answer a quick check on Eddy's whiteboard

Write your working and DuckyHelper checks it: the first wrong line marked with why on a Mac, and Eddy's whiteboard for a quick drawing or check.

### Say quiz me: tap, type math or answer true or false, and every miss comes with why

Say quiz me and DuckyHelper writes a quick quiz on what you are learning: tap, type math or answer true or false, and every miss comes with why.

### Small sandboxes you run yourself: drag the ball, move a slider, read the numbers

Ask DuckyHelper to show you how a pendulum, a projectile or a circuit works and get a small sandbox to run yourself: drag, change a slider, read the numbers.

### It asks back and gives the next hint before an answer, so you do the thinking

DuckyHelper asks back and gives the next hint before it gives an answer, so you do the thinking. Why that matters, and how it works on a Mac and in Eddy.

### Run your code against tests, then watch it step by step with every variable as it changes

DuckyHelper runs your code against tests and plays it back step by step, every variable as it changes, so you see why it gives the wrong answer.
