# A parent's guide to DuckyHelper

DuckyHelper is an AI voice tutor that runs as a Mac app or in a browser. Your child asks out loud, and Ducky looks at their screen and explains with drawings, hints, quizzes and worked steps. It is built to teach, not to do homework. Teens 13 to 17 need a parent's OK; children under 13 can use it only after a parent gives verifiable consent. Plans start free.

## What your child actually sees

A small dark pill appears at the bottom of the screen when your child presses fn. They talk; Ducky answers out loud. While it explains, a pointer draws circles, arrows and labels over the homework they have open. Quizzes, flashcards, graphs and step-by-step working appear in the pill. When they're done, they press fn again and it goes away. Every session is saved to their dashboard: time learned, streak, topics, mastery and test scores.

In a browser, for example on a Chromebook, Ducky opens in a panel beside the page instead, and sees only the tab, window or screen your child chooses to share. The browser asks before the microphone or screen sharing turns on.

## Does it do the homework for them?

No. Ducky is set up to ask what your child thinks first, give hints before answers, and have them do the steps. It checks their working and marks the first mistake instead of fixing it. It won't finish, submit or post work for them. Your child's school rules about AI still come first, and DuckyHelper should not be used on tests unless the teacher allows it. Our [AI Use & Academic Integrity](https://duckyhelper.com/legal/ai/) guide says this in full.

## What it sees, hears and keeps

| What | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| Voice | Goes straight to OpenAI to run the conversation. Not recorded or kept. |
| Screen | Pictures go to OpenAI when your child asks Ducky to look or Ducky needs to. Not kept unless saved to memory. |
| Sessions | A written transcript and summary, progress, tests and flashcards are kept so Ducky can pick up where they left off. |
| Training and ads | Not used to train AI models, not sold, not used for ads. |

## Ages and consent

- **13 and older** can make their own account. **13 to 17** need a parent's or guardian's OK.
- **Under 13:** when a child signs up, we ask only for their first name and your email, then email you. You read what we'd collect, make a parent account, choose what's on and confirm with a 50-cent card check that is refunded right away. Nothing about your child is collected until you say yes.
- After that, you can see, download or delete what we keep, change what's on, or withdraw your OK (which deletes the account) from the parent page.

## Safety on the screen

- In the Mac app, when Ducky clicks or types to show how something is done, it says so first and goes one step at a time. The web app can't act on the screen at all.
- It never acts in a password field and never submits, pays, sends or deletes anything.
- Google connections only draft emails, events and documents; nothing is sent until your child taps it. For under 13s, connections are off unless you turn them on.
- Ducky is instructed to stay kind and age-appropriate, and to suggest talking to a trusted adult if a child seems upset. AI safety measures aren't perfect: report anything wrong to support@duckyhelper.com.

## Seeing how it's going

For a child under 13, a weekly learning report goes to the parent's email. Older learners can set up learning reports for a parent or teacher themselves, with minutes, sessions and scores counted from what really happened. Their dashboard shows topics and test scores over time.

## Cost and payments

Free gives about 6 minutes of talking a week. Plus is $20 a month, Pro $200 a month and Unlimited $200 a week; all renew automatically until cancelled in Manage billing. Charges show as **MINGLLM** on your statement. A child under 13 can't make payments; to pay for a plan for them, email support@duckyhelper.com. Auto top-up is off unless someone turns it on. See [Pricing](https://duckyhelper.com/pricing/).

## What it won't do

- It isn't a doctor, a counselor or a lawyer, and it doesn't know your child's teacher's expectations unless your child shows them.
- Its grades and reports are estimates, not official grades.
- It can be confidently wrong. Encourage your child to check what matters and to tell Ducky when something looks off.
- It isn't offered through schools today.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is DuckyHelper safe for kids?

DuckyHelper is built for learners, with limits on what it does: it won't act in password fields, won't submit or send anything, and is told to stay age-appropriate. Children under 13 need a parent's verifiable consent first. No AI is perfect, so check in on how your child uses it.

### What age is DuckyHelper for?

Anyone 13 or older can make an account, with a parent's OK if they are 13 to 17. Children under 13 can use it only after a parent gives verifiable consent through the parent sign-up and a refunded 50-cent card check.

### Will my child just get answers from it?

Ducky is designed to teach: it asks what your child thinks, gives hints one at a time and checks their own steps. It won't finish or submit work. Your child's school rules about AI still apply, and it shouldn't be used on tests unless allowed.

### Is my child's data used to train AI?

No. Neither we nor OpenAI use your child's voice, screen or sessions to train AI models, and we don't sell it or use it for ads. The Children's Privacy Notice explains what is kept and how to delete it.

### Can I see what my child is learning?

Yes. For a child under 13, you get a weekly learning report by email and a parent page. Older learners can share reports with you, and their dashboard shows time learned, topics and test scores.
