# An AI math tutor that shows every step

DuckyHelper is an AI math tutor that explains a problem one move at a time and shows it: worked steps, graphs you can move, a chart of what a probability really means. Ask out loud in the Mac app's Eddy tab, or press fn and Ducky sees the problem on your screen. It gives hints before answers, so the last step is yours.

One question, shown

## Ask it. See it.

Three questions our films ask, and what the tutor puts on the screen for each. Pick one and watch.

### What is the golden ratio?

Eddy draws a golden rectangle split into smaller and smaller squares and labels the parts as it names them, so the number 1.618 has a shape you can point at. While the picture comes in, Eddy asks how much you already know, and the explanation starts from there.

Worked steps

## One move at a time, with the math

Ask to see a problem solved and you get 3 to 6 steps, one move each, with the math written out. Ask for a graph and you get one you can hover, pan and zoom, with sliders for the letters, so you can ask what if. In the Eddy tab the steps land on Eddy's desk as a Worked out card; with Ducky they stream into the pill.

Your turn on the whiteboard

In Eddy, press Whiteboard (Cmd + B) and write the next line yourself. It is a small board for a quick drawing or a quick check, and Eddy looks at what you wrote.

Every line checked (Mac app)

Open a scratchpad in the pill, write your lines and press Check my work. A computer algebra check goes line by line and marks the earliest line that does not follow, with why.

Keep the steps (Mac app)

Press Keep and the worked steps become a note you can drag anywhere on your screen while you try the next problem.

Hints before answers

## Stuck is fine. Skipping isn't.

A tutor that hands over the answer feels fast and teaches nothing. DuckyHelper starts with a nudge and lets you do the move. On a Mac, Hint opens a ladder one rung at a time: a nudge, a bigger hint, the worked step, and the answer last. In the Eddy tab, open your worksheet in Eddy and it reads the questions with you and gives hints, not the answer.

[Guide: quizzes and hints](https://docs.duckyhelper.com/study/quizzes/)

Bring your own worksheet

Press Open a file (Cmd + O) and pick a PDF, a Word file or a photo of the page. You and Eddy both see it, and you can write on it with the pen.

Quiz yourself after

Ask for a quick quiz on what you just did. Tap a choice or type the math, and a wrong answer tells you why. A question you miss can come back later as a flashcard.

Where it works

## Eddy or Ducky

Both are in the DuckyHelper Mac app, with one account, progress and set of cards. The difference is your screen: only Ducky can see it and draw on it.

In the Eddy tab, with Eddy

Open the Eddy tab in the app's dashboard. Ask out loud, and Eddy shows steps, graphs, charts and pictures on its desk.

Over any app, with Ducky

Press fn in any app and ask about the problem in front of you. While the pill is open Ducky sees your screen, circles the line it means and writes the next step by hand in the margin beside your work.

## Math study guides

### Algebra 1

Solving equations, slope, factoring and quadratics, each with a worked example.

### Algebra 2

Logarithms, complex numbers, function transformations and sequences.

### Geometry

The Pythagorean theorem, similar triangles, circle theorems and right triangle trig.

## Ask Eddy

Say one of these out loud. Eddy picks how to show it: words, a picture or the board.

What is a derivative, really?

Why does a negative times a negative make a positive?

How do I find the slope from two points?

Quiz me on solving for x

## Frequently asked questions

### Can an AI math tutor show its work?

Yes. Ask for a problem step by step and DuckyHelper writes 3 to 6 steps, one move each, with the math. Ask why a step works and it explains that move, on the blackboard or with a graph you can change.

### Will it just give me the answer?

Not first. It starts with a hint and asks you to try the move. In the Mac app, the hint ladder gives a nudge, a bigger hint and the worked step before the answer. In the Eddy tab, Eddy's homework mode gives hints and never says the answer.

### Can it make mistakes in math?

Yes, any tutor can slip, so ask it to show each step and check them. In the Mac app, Check my work runs a computer algebra check on every line of your scratchpad instead of guessing, and marks the earliest line that does not follow.

### Does it work on a Chromebook?

Not right now: DuckyHelper is a Mac app (macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon). There is no Chromebook or web version. On a Mac, Eddy brings steps, graphs, quizzes and pictures, and Ducky sees your screen, writes in the margin and checks the scratchpad.

An AI writing tutor that reads your own draft with you, asks what you mean and points to what is unclear, and leaves the writing to you. On a Mac.

### Languages: speak out loud, get scored, and keep what you miss

An AI language tutor you practice with out loud: hear a word in syllables, say it back, get each word scored, and keep what you miss as flashcards.

### Computer science: run it, step through it, and write it yourself

An AI computer science tutor: run your code against tests, step through it line by line to see the variables change, and get hints instead of the solution.
