Which one should you pick?

Pick DuckyHelper if

  • You want to talk instead of type, on a Chromebook, a Windows PC or a Mac.
  • Your work lives in other apps: Google Docs, a PDF, a coding editor, a practice test site.
  • You want it to point at the exact spot on your screen (on a Mac, right over the app you are using).
  • You want quizzes, worked steps, graphs and a dashboard for any subject (flashcards in the Mac app).

Pick Khanmigo if

  • You want the lowest price: $4 a month, or free if you are a teacher.
  • You want built-in parent and teacher tools.
  • You want a tutor tied to full courses and practice on Khan Academy.
  • You want a long-running product with a track record.

The real difference: where the help happens

Khanmigo lives inside Khan Academy. You open it next to a lesson or exercise, and it asks you questions instead of handing over the answer. Khan Academy says it "doesn't just give answers" and guides students to find them. That is a good fit when your class or your plan already runs on Khan Academy.

DuckyHelper works on whatever you have open. In the web app you share a tab, a window or your screen and talk; Ducky explains out loud and draws marks on the preview of what you shared. On a Mac you press fn and Ducky draws circles, arrows and labels right on your real screen, and it can walk you through steps in your own apps and check that you did each one before it moves on.

Voice

Khanmigo can turn your speech into text and read its answers aloud. We did not find a live, back-and-forth voice mode. DuckyHelper is built around voice: you talk to it like a person, and it talks back while it shows you things.

Seeing your work

Khanmigo does not share your screen. In its Tutor Me activity you can upload a photo of a math or science problem on the web, with a short text prompt. Since August 2026 it can also show interactive diagrams that you can move, made with Google's Gemini.

DuckyHelper sees what you share while you talk to it, so you do not need to upload photos. It works on any app or website, not just one learning site.

Khanmigo is much cheaper, and it does not publish a minute limit that we could find. DuckyHelper's paid plans buy talking time: Plus gives about 27 minutes a week. If you mostly need a patient tutor for Khan Academy work, Khanmigo is the better deal. See DuckyHelper pricing for the full table.

Using both

They do not conflict. Some students do Khan Academy lessons with Khanmigo, then use DuckyHelper for work outside Khan Academy, like an essay draft, a lab report or a practice SAT review.

Frequently asked questions

Is Khanmigo free?

Khanmigo is free for teachers. Learners pay $4 a month or $44 a year, and a parent can cover up to 10 children for the same price. It is for US residents with a US billing address.

Can Khanmigo see my screen?

No. Khanmigo opens next to Khan Academy content and does not share your screen. In its Tutor Me activity you can upload a photo of a math or science problem on the web. DuckyHelper sees a tab, window or screen you share in the browser, or your whole screen in the Mac app.

Does DuckyHelper work on a Chromebook?

Yes. The DuckyHelper web app at app.duckyhelper.com runs in a Chromebook browser: you talk to Ducky in a panel beside the page and share a tab, window or screen. Drawing on your real screen and tutorials inside other apps need the Mac app.

Which is better for SAT prep?

Start with the free official tools: Bluebook practice tests and Official Digital SAT Prep on Khan Academy; Khanmigo also offers test prep help. DuckyHelper helps when you want to talk through the questions you missed, out loud, and get quizzed on them.

How old do you need to be?

Khanmigo asks you to be 18 to sign up yourself; a parent signs up children. DuckyHelper is 13 and up, with a parent's OK for 13 to 17, and children under 13 only after a parent gives verified consent.
