macOS App License
In short
- You may install and use the DuckyHelper app on Macs you own or control, for yourself.
- The app asks for four macOS permissions (Microphone, Screen Recording, Accessibility, Input Monitoring). Each one is explained below, and you can turn any off in System Settings.
- The app updates itself automatically. Updates are signed, download in the background, and install when you quit or choose Restart to Update, never while you're talking to Ducky.
- Uninstalling removes the app and its data from your Mac; your account stays online until you ask us to delete it.
This license is between you and MingLLM, Inc., a Delaware corporation, and is part of the Terms of Service. It covers the DuckyHelper app for macOS (the "App") and its updates. The App is licensed, not sold.
1. License
While you follow the Terms, MingLLM gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download, install and use the App on Macs you own or control, to use DuckyHelper for yourself (or, for a parent, for your child's account). You may not:
- copy, modify, or make works based on the App, except as the law allows despite this;
- decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer it, except where the law allows it despite this;
- rent, lend, sell, sublicense or redistribute it;
- remove our notices or get around its security, update or license checks;
- use it in breach of the Acceptable Use Policy or export laws.
The App includes open-source components (such as the Sparkle update framework) under their own licenses, which apply to those components.
2. The permissions the App asks for
The App asks macOS for these permissions when it needs them. Without one, the part that needs it won't work; everything else keeps working. Turn any off at any time in System Settings, Privacy & Security.
| Permission | Why DuckyHelper needs it |
|---|---|
| Microphone | To hear you while the pill is open and listening. Audio goes straight to our AI provider for the live conversation; we don't record it. |
| Screen Recording | To see what you're asking about: screenshots when you talk to Ducky, point with fn + cmd, or when Ducky needs to look, and, during a session, noticing when your screen changes. DuckyHelper's own windows are left out. |
| Accessibility | To find the exact spot Ducky should point at, to follow your clicks and typing while Ducky checks a step you're doing, and, when you ask or when it's showing you how, to click, type, press keys, scroll and drag on your screen. It never acts in password fields. |
| Input Monitoring | To notice the fn key (and fn + cmd) from any app, so you can open the pill wherever you are. While Ducky follows your typing for a step, it never reads keys typed into a password field. |
The Privacy Policy explains what the App sends and keeps, and AI Use & Academic Integrity explains how on-screen actions work and how you stay in control. The App also runs a small web server for its own windows that only accepts connections from your Mac, and may start when you log in (you can turn that off in DuckyHelper, Settings, General).
3. Automatic updates
You agree that the App may update itself automatically. We publish updates to fix problems, keep the App secure and add features.
- The App checks duckyhelper.com for updates about every 4 hours, and downloads a new version in the background.
- Every update is signed with our private key and checked before it's installed; an update that isn't signed by us is refused. Updates are also signed with our Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
- An update installs when you quit the App, or when you choose Restart to Update in its menu. It never restarts the App while the pill is open.
- You can check for updates in DuckyHelper, Settings, General, or in the menu bar.
- Some features, or the Services, may stop working with old versions, so keep the App up to date. If you don't want automatic updates, uninstall the App.
4. Uninstalling
Choose Uninstall DuckyHelper… in the App's menu (or in Settings, About). It restores your fn key setting, removes Open at Login, asks macOS to forget the App's permissions, moves the App to the Trash and removes its settings and data on your Mac (its sign-in, caches and log). Your account and what it keeps online stay until you ask us to delete them (see the Privacy Policy). Uninstalling doesn't cancel a paid plan; cancel it in Manage billing.
5. Apple
This license is between you and MingLLM, not Apple. If you got the App from Apple's App Store, Apple isn't responsible for it or its support, and Apple's App Store terms also apply. The App is distributed today from duckyhelper.com, not the App Store.
6. Ending this license
This license ends when your use of DuckyHelper ends under the Terms, or if you break it. Then you must stop using the App and delete it. Sections 1 (what you may not do), 5 and the Terms' disclaimers, limits of liability and dispute terms keep applying.
7. Warranty, liability and disputes
The App is provided under the Terms' disclaimers and limits of liability, and disputes are handled as the Terms describe (sections 12 to 16 of the Terms of Service).
